| Webmaster's note: Rabbi Avi formed a similar tour in 2005 and 2007. I was one of the participants. Even the description below and the itinerary outline cannot do justice to the trip itself. The richness of the tour, the camaraderie that develops, and the feeling that comes with actually being in Israel have to be experienced to be understood. Rabbi Avi has announced a new tour group forming for June 2008. My advice: SIGN UP AND GO! It is a transforming experience. JAK, Webmaster |

For generations, Jewish people dreamed about visiting in Israel; however, for many of them it was only a dream that they could never fulfill. In the coming summer of 2007, members of the Myrtle Beach Jewish community will have a lifetime opportunity. They will be able to fulfill a dream, and visit Israel.
Why Israel? Why spend the summer vacation there and not in Europe, South America, or maybe in China? There are many answers to these questions and the answers could be varying, depending upon personal preferences. I have visited Israel often, and every time the visit was more enjoyable and more meaningful. When I land at Ben Gurion Airport, I get the feeling that I am back home. It is not a cliché to say that Israel is a home for every Jew. You can understand that only when you visit there. Israel is a Jewish country, and the Jewishness of Israel is obvious everywhere you travel in this magnificent country. The Hebrew language, the smells, the colors, the delicious food, the Israeli soldiers, the Hasidic Jews, are all a part of that Jewish identity that can be found only in Israel.
In Israel, the old historical places and life styles exist in harmony next to super modern cities. You can walk by the Western wall in Jerusalem, the exotic Arab market and then visit the lively downtown new city of Jerusalem, all in a short walking distance from each other. It says in the Talmud that "ten measures of beauty were given to the world, nine of these went to Jerusalem and one to the rest of the world" (tractate Kidushin). How true is this verse!
